Giant Holiday Ornaments in Washington, DC

SAGE Holiday Video Card 2010 from Peter von Elling on Vimeo.

I love it when you accomplish (almost) everything you wanted in a project. There were many steps in the process from shooting the Washington, DC landmarks through to final render and editing. In addition to shooting the live action plates on a Canon 7D, I also shot panoramic HDRs of the locations to provide accurate lighting for the 3D models I created and composited into the shot. In addition to the HDRs, I used Luxology modo's physical sun settings to recreate the lighting on the day of the shoot. Everything was then rendered and composited in After Effects, where little touches like contact lighting, flares, and grain matching was added as well.

If you ever have a chance I would love to see a post on how to get started learning to use rollers. I have been using a cycleops for the past year and just got a hand me down set of rollers. I'm not sure how to determine the correct length of the base. I have no idea how to-Tom Ford designer sunglasses get going or how to make the best use of this very cool seeming tool. I clearly have a long ways to go on my balance...
