Wide Dynamic Range

Here is another animation for ANGA. This particular piece had a very short turnaround time (about 5 days) which made for a hectic schedule. To save time, I used Trapcode particular "road" scenes where lots of cars ride through the scene. Particular pulled a frame with a car graphic at random from a separate composition, and then I set the particle system to simulate cars on the road. The flipping gas meter was an exercise in nesting comps in After Effects and then setting the number generates to scroll from the start numbers to the finish.

I got this gig after another studio tried to do a web site tour using screencasts and it just didn't work. I created this entire web tour in After Effects, recreating the interactive experience "by hand," manually moving cursors and making highlight text. While this was more work intensive, it allowed unprecedented freedom and much greater resolution to really get "inside" and "move around" the web site.

I was asked to do this animation on short notice for the unveiling of The College Board's new iPad application. The brief was to make it like an Apple iPad ad. I already had a 3D model of an iPad in the works, and I combined that with a model of the book to provide the hero shots. Originally, footage of the actual book was shot, but it looked better and we had more control with the 3d model. 

I used the screenshots the client provided and composited that on the iPad for the shots showing how the app works.
